Camilla Belle was born on October 2, 1986, in Los Angeles, California, USA. Her father, Jack Wesley Routh, was a construction company owner, and her mother, Christina Routh (nee Gould), was a designer. Camilla has Brazilian roots from her mother's side and was named after a character in a popular Brazilian soap opera called "Cavalo de Ao," played by renowned actress Renata Sorra. During her childhood, Camilla often visited Santos, her mother's hometown, and became fluent in both English and Portuguese. She even attended school in Brazil at the Catholic Elementary School of Sao Paulo before her family settled in the United States. She continued her education at Marlborough School for Girls in Los Angeles.

At just nine months old, Camilla began her career as a model for various print publications and television. Her professional acting debut came at the age of five in the TV movie "Adventures in Odyssey: A Stranger Among Us," which aired in 1993.
