Early Life and Transition

Candis Cayne, born as Brendan McDaniel, entered the world on August 29, 1964, in Maui, Hawaii. Raised in a Waldorf school environment by two educators, she attended Baldwin High School before pursuing dance in Los Angeles for a year.

Drag Performances and Transition

In the early 1990s, McDaniel moved to New York City, where she embraced drag queen culture and honed her dancing skills. Around this time, she began identifying as transgender. Emerging as "Candis Cayne," she performed in New York City's gay bars and on the Chelsea circuit, including iconic Wigstock festivals.

Breakthrough Role and Representation

In 2007, Cayne made a groundbreaking appearance in the television series "Dirty Sexy Money" as Carmelita Rainer, a transgender woman married to a prosecutor. This role marked a significant moment as Cayne became the first transgender actress to portray a trans character in primetime television, paving the way for greater representation.

Advocacy and Recognition

Cayne has been an outspoken advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. She has expressed her desire to be seen not only as a transgender icon but as a human being. In 2001, she won the Miss Continental pageant, and she has also appeared in films such as "Stonewall" and "To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar."

Personal Life

In 2009, Cayne announced her engagement to DJ Marco, but the couple eventually parted ways in 2010. She has since remained unmarried and focused on her career and advocacy work.
