Biography of Candy Dulfer

Candy Dulfer, born on September 19, 1969, in Amsterdam, Netherlands, is a Dutch jazz saxophonist. She is the daughter of renowned jazz musician and tenor saxophonist Hans Dulfer. From the age of five, Candy played the drums before deciding to take up the saxophone on her own initiative.

Early Career

Candy began her training at the age of six, starting with the soprano saxophone, but found her father's tenor saxophone too heavy at that time. At the age of seven, she switched to the alto saxophone and started playing in a local group called "Jeugd Doet Leven" in Zuidwoude. It is worth noting that Candy learned everything she knows, except for basic concert preparation and a few months of music lessons, on her own.

Funky Stuff

At the age of fourteen, Candy formed her own group called "Funky Stuff" and already performed in her own band. In 1990, she released her debut album, "Saxuality," which was nominated for a Grammy Award. Since then, Candy has released nine studio albums, two live albums, and one compilation album. She has collaborated and recorded songs with her father Hans Dulfer, Prince, Dave Stewart, Rene Froger, Van Morrison, and Maceo Parker.

Other Ventures

Candy also worked on a Dutch TV series called "Candy meets…" where she interviewed her fellow musicians. In addition to her music career, Candy has been involved in various projects and collaborations. She played in Madonna's European tour in 1987 with her group "Funky Stuff" and even appeared in Prince's music video, where she was mentioned in the song lyrics.

Recent Projects

Candy's most recent album, "Funked Up & Chilled Out," was released in 2009. Throughout her career, she has remained a prominent figure in the jazz genre, known for her compositions such as "For The Love Of You" and "Finsbury Park, Cafe 67."

Collaboration with Father

In 2001, Candy released a duet album titled "Dulfer Dulfer" with her father Hans Dulfer. She continues to perform and record music, showcasing her talent and passion for the saxophone.
