Carl Barat (full name Carl Ashley Raphael Barat) was born in 1978 in Basingstoke, Hampshire, England. As a child, Carl split his time between his divorced parents. After finishing school in 1996, Barat enrolled in Brunel University, where he started studying theater arts. According to his classmates, Carl was not highly respected and spent most of his time with his girlfriend, Amy-Jo.

While in college, Carl also met Pete Doherty, with whom he co-founded their first band, 'The Libertines.' The band also included bassist John Hassall and drummer Gary Powell. Their debut album, 'Up the Bracket,' was released in 2002 and received mixed reviews from music critics. However, the band continued to tour the country.

A year later, it became evident that Pete Doherty was struggling with heroin and other drug use. The decision was made to ask him to leave the band and not participate in the upcoming 'The Libertines' tour. After his dismissal, Pete discovered that the rest of the band had gone to Japan for the tour without him. Seeking revenge, he broke into Barat's apartment and stole several valuable items, including an antique guitar and numerous awards. Pete Doherty was sentenced to six months in prison but served only a third of his sentence.

Upon returning from Japan, Carl and the other band members invited Pete back into the group and publicly apologized to him. In 2004, the band began working on songs for their second album. However, the relationship between the members had deteriorated to the point where police and security guards had to be called to break up fights.

In September 2005, Pete Doherty announced that he would soon leave the band and start working on his new project, 'Babyshambles.' In February 2005, 'The Libertines' received the award for 'Best British Band.'

Over the next few years, Carl focused on his solo career. It is known that he invited his former bandmate, Doherty, to perform a few songs together at one of his concerts. On May 16, 2009, all the members of 'The Libertines' reunited on stage and performed songs such as 'What a Waster,' 'Up the Bracket,' and 'Death on the Stairs.' Despite the desire of some band members, a full reunion did not materialize.

Carl Barat also played in the popular band 'Dirty Pretty Things.' Their debut album, 'Waterloo to Anywhere,' was released on May 8, 2006, and reached the prestigious 3rd position on the charts in its first week. Their second and latest album, 'Romance at Short Notice,' was released in July 2008.

It is known that Barat has been involved in projects such as 'The Chavs' and 'Client,' but none of them achieved the same popularity as 'The Libertines.'
