Biography of Spencer Krug

Spencer Krug, the Canadian musician, captivates listeners with his unique musical style. His music is filled with a certain tragedy and hidden sadness that sends shivers down the spine. However, Krug's creativity is so diverse that even his most loyal fans cannot confidently answer the question of who the real Spencer is – a melancholic pianist as he appears in the 'Moonface' project or a mischievous rocker-guitarist from 'Two Tonne Bowlers'.

Spencer Krug

Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Spencer Krug was born on May 4, 1977, in Penticton, British Columbia, Canada. At the age of twelve, he developed a passion for music and began learning to play the piano. Soon after, he started learning the guitar. After moving to Victoria, Krug met Carey Mercer, his roommate and future founder of the band 'Frog Eyes'. Together with a few other mutual friends, they formed the band, and in 2001, their first single 'The Bloody Hand' was released.

Success with Wolf Parade

After a few months, Krug made the decision to move to Montreal, Quebec, where he enrolled in university to study writing. However, his break from music was only temporary. In 2003, he teamed up with his old friend Dan Boeckner to form the indie rock band 'Wolf Parade', which quickly gained popularity in Montreal and beyond. Just a few months after its formation, the band opened for 'Arcade Fire', and in 2005, their first album 'Apologies to the Queen Mary' was recorded and released under the independent label 'Sub Pop'.

Multiple Musical Collaborations

In addition to 'Wolf Parade', Krug collaborated with several other groups. In 2005, he joined the instrumental trio 'Fifths of Seven', and soon after, he began his solo art-rock project, 'Sunset Rubdown', releasing five singles. In 2006, the project expanded with new members, and they recorded four more albums that gained popularity among fans. During this time, Krug continued to perform with both 'Wolf Parade' and 'Frog Eyes', and the two bands embarked on a joint tour.

Around the same time, Krug and other musicians began writing songs for the band 'Swan Lake', and their first album, 'Beast Moans', was released on November 21, 2006. Krug also established the solo project 'Moonface', which has gained popularity in recent years. His first album, 'Dreamland EP: Marimba and Shit-Drums', was released in 2010 and was available for download on his website.

Continued Success

Krug's second album, 'Organ Music Not Vibraphone Like I'd Hoped', was even more successful, and his distinct style and slightly melancholic lyrics began to shine through. Soon, on October 29, 2013, his album 'Julia with Blue Jeans On' was released, which was even more piercing. Some songs from the album, including the first track 'Barbarian', have the potential to enter prestigious charts and hit parades, according to fans and critics.

Krug, a relatively private individual, rarely gives interviews and admits to continually working and composing new songs. The future holds unknown possibilities for the Canadian musician, but there is a certainty that his name will forever remain in the history of indie rock.
