Early Life and Education
Carl Gottlieb Hering was a Saxon teacher, organist, and composer. Born in 1766, he studied theology, pedagogy, philology, and philosophy in Leipzig from 1788 to 1791.
Teaching Career
After graduating, Hering served as a tutor for the Krug von Nidda family in Querfurt until 1794. Subsequently, he became a teacher and later director of the Oschatz Latin City School from 1795 to 1811. In 1796, he earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree and studied composition under Johann Gottfried Schicht.
Musical Endeavors
Hering became the organist of St. Aegidius Church in Oschatz in 1802, a position he held until 1811. He also contributed to the weekly newspaper "Oschatzer Erzähler für den Bürger und Landmann."
Later Career
From 1813 onwards, Hering served as a teacher in Zittau, where he became the school rector in 1813. He remained in this position until his retirement in 1836.
Family and Legacy
Hering was married to Christiana Friederika Kreuzberg and had 13 children. Among his notable sons were:
Konstantin Hering (1800-1880): A follower of Samuel Hahnemann and a pioneer of homeopathy in America.
Karl Eduard Hering (1807-1879): A composer.
Ewald Hering (1802-1862): A writer.Julius Robert Hering (1805-1828): A philologist.
Death
Hering passed away on January 4, 1853, in Zittau. He was 86 years old and had lived a long and distinguished life as an educator, organist, and composer.
