Early Life and Ecclesiastical Career
Antonio Cardinal Bacciwas an Italian Curial Cardinal born on September 4, 1885, in Poggio Cinolfo, Italy. He was ordained a priest on July 25, 1909.
Episcopal Ministry
On March 27, 1941, Pope Pius XII appointed him Archbishop of L'Aquila. He served in this role until February 22, 1950.
Vatican Appointments
On February 22, 1950, Bacci was named Titular Archbishop of Nicopolis al Nestus. He held this position until his elevation to the cardinalate in 1958.
From January 25, 1950, to December 15, 1958, Bacci served as Secretary of the Sacred Congregation for Seminaries and Universities.
Cardinalate and Vatican Leadership
On December 18, 1958, Pope John XXIII created Bacci a Cardinal Priest, with the titular church of Sant'Agnese fuori le Mura.
From March 14, 1961, to February 25, 1973, he served as Secretary and Prefect of the Sacred Congregation for Bishops.
