Biography of Carly Pope
Canadian actress Carly Pope is a Canadian actress who has built a career in her homeland and managed to break into Hollywood. Having appeared in over 60 films and TV series, Carly shows no signs of stopping and continues to grace the screens.
Childhood and Youth
Carly was born on August 28, 1980, in Vancouver, and grew up with two brothers, Chris and Alexander, in a family with Italian, Irish, and Yugoslavian roots. In her childhood, Pope practiced dancing, and during her teenage years, she became interested in theater. She made her stage debut in productions of "The Odd Couple" and "A Midsummer Night's Dream." After graduating from high school, Carly enrolled in the linguistics department at the University of Vancouver, where she studied French, Italian, and Spanish.
Films
Pope began her film career in the mid-90s with a small role in a short film. By the early 2000s, Carly had added appearances in two feature films and five TV movies to her filmography and landed the lead role in the youth series "Popular." The second lead character was played by American actress and model Leslie Bibb. The series revolved around popular and unpopular teenage girls who had to find common ground after their parents got married. The show aired for two years, was extremely popular with viewers, and received several awards for Best Teen Comedy. 11 years after the show ended, in 2012, Entertainment Weekly included it in the list of "26 Cult TV Shows of All Time." The popularity of the series also reflected on the actresses in the lead roles. Carly appeared on the covers of several magazines and was also included in the list of the "Top 25 Hottest Women Under 25."
After the resounding success, Carly was increasingly invited to significant supporting and lead roles. She played the central character in the series "The Collector" about people struggling with drug addiction. Her next major work was the drama "Various Positions" about a student from an Orthodox Jewish family who falls in love with Carly's character. This film was awarded at the Montreal World Film Festival in 2002. A year later, Pope added three lead roles to her professional portfolio: in the miniseries "First to Die," the series "Life As We Know It," and the detective thriller "The Slaughter Rule," which was nominated for the New Zealand Film Award for Best Film. Since then, the actress has appeared in many films, mostly Canadian, which have not found an audience outside the country. She has also occasionally appeared in professional photo shoots for advertisements, posing in swimwear or lingerie.
Personal Life
Carly prefers not to publicize the details of her relationships with the opposite sex. In the early 2000s, Carly dated Canadian actor Brendan Fehr, and then she was in a relationship with American actor Patrick Flueger for three years.
In 2016, there were rumors of a romance between the actress and another American performer, Jesse Bradford, with whom Carly occasionally appeared at social events. Later, Pope tweeted, confessing that there was no relationship between her and Jesse, and that she had spread the rumors herself. It is known today that the Canadian actress is not married.
According to the actress, she cannot stand the phone and at one point kept it turned off for a year and a half. However, Carly now actively uses gadgets and social networks. For example, on her personal Instagram account, Pope regularly posts personal photos and muses on various topics.
Current Status
Carly continues her career in the film industry. In mid-2020, she landed the lead role in the sci-fi thriller "Demonic." In the film, her character, named Carly, uses modern technology to enter her own mother's mind, who had killed twenty people in the past. The film premiered in the United States in August 2021 and was released in Russia in October. The movie received below-average ratings and was not well-received by both audiences and critics.
Pope's candidacy has also been confirmed for the comedy "Easter Sunday," the detective series "Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin," and the drama "Mental State," all of which are in American production.
