Biography of Carol Mortimer

Carol Mortimer, a British writer of romantic novels, is undoubtedly one of the most successful authors in the genre. With over 150 books in her creative repertoire, Carol became one of the youngest authors of the famous 'Mills & Boon' publishing house, known for its women's romance novels, when she published her first book at the age of eighteen.

Early Life and Career

Carol Mortimer was born in 1960 in a tiny village in the east of England. Her hometown was so small that, as the writer herself puts it, if you blinked while driving, you would simply miss it. However, Carol's parents still live in the same house where she was born, and her two older brothers also chose not to venture far from their roots.

Initially, Carol had aspirations of becoming a nurse, but her education was cut short when she suffered a severe back injury from a fall. Her dreams of a professional medical career had to be abandoned, and Carol found work in the computer department of a renowned stationery company. It was there that she started typing her first manuscript on a computer.

Persistence and Success

Gaining courage, Carol submitted her manuscript to 'Mills & Boon' publishing house, only to receive a resolute rejection. The novel's text was deemed too short, and its plot did not meet the publishing house's guidelines. Undeterred, Carol repeated her attempt two years later. This time, her manuscript was accepted, and in 1978, the novel 'Passionate Winter' marked the beginning of her long and fruitful writing career.

Throughout her career, Carol Mortimer has published an average of three to four novels per year, both as standalone works and as part of series. Her books are traditional women's romance novels with beautifully crafted plots and characters, which have enjoyed immense popularity among readers worldwide.

Literary Achievements

In celebration of her 30th anniversary as a writer, Carol Mortimer delved into historical romance novels. One notable series is 'The Notorious St. Claires,' which has since been expanded to include contemporary romances. Over 50 of Carol Mortimer's works have been published in Russian by publishing houses such as 'Panorama,' 'Raduga,' and 'Centrpoligraf,' including several popular author series.

Her novels, such as 'A Duchess for Cinderella,' 'Forced Engagement,' and 'Countess and Casanova,' are set in the early 19th century, while 'Talent and Admirer,' 'Nothing Personal,' and 'Redhead Angel' belong to the contemporary genre. Another historical series is 'Daring Duchesses,' which currently includes a Regency-era spy romance titled 'Dangerous Charmer' and an almost detective-like 'Cruelty of Love.' Among her works, the historical book 'The Lady Forfeits' enjoys the highest reader rating.

Carol Mortimer's novels, including the workplace romance 'Redhead Angel,' the modern Christmas story 'When the Snow Melts,' and many others, have garnered significant success among readers.

Personal Life

Currently, Carol Mortimer has a large family consisting of her husband and six children. Her husband Peter has two older sons, Matthew and Joshua. In their marriage, Carol and Peter have three sons, Timothy, Michael, and David, as well as their youngest son, Peter Jr., who is 22 years younger than their firstborn.

Carol considers her marriage happy and asserts that the recipe for family happiness lies in being each other's best friends and lovers. Their home is also filled with numerous four-legged pets, including a mixed-breed dog and a coyote brought from Canada.
