Early Life and Career
Giovanna Antonelli was born on January 25, 1968, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. As a skilled dancer and with her striking appearance, she began her professional career in 1987 as a news presenter for TV Manchete, a Brazilian television network.
Rise to Stardom
In 1990, director Jaime Monjardim, then an executive at TV Manchete, compelled Antonelli to take on a role in the television series "Pantanal" to avoid being fired. Her breakthrough came after joining TV Globo and starring in the soap operas "História de Amor" and "Por Amor," both written by Manoel Carlos.
Antonelli's portrayal of Milena in "Por Amor" earned her and co-star Eduardo Moscovis the award for "Best Romantic Couple" on television. However, her attempt to replicate this success in the 1998 soap opera "Pecadoras" proved unsuccessful.
Acclaimed Roles
Among her most fulfilling roles, Antonelli cites playing the androgynous Ruby in the television series "CubanaCan." This character showcased her versatility and acting prowess.
Personal Life
From 1987 to 1998, Antonelli was married to Mario Cohen, a TV Globo executive. They have one daughter, Valentina Cohen (born 1995). Since 2012, she has been in a common-law marriage with physician Marcelo Marins. They have one daughter, Isabel Marins (born May 8, 2015).
