Katie was born, raised, and currently resides in the United States. Her father is American, and her mother is Japanese. Early Career

Katie started skating in 1994 and formed a dance partnership with her brother in 2001. In 2006, they won the US Championship in the Novice category. Typically, victories in the Novice category are followed by international competitions such as the Junior Grand Prix series. However, Katie, who is two years older than her brother, could no longer be considered a junior according to the rules of the International Skating Union. At the adult level, where the competition is fierce, they would not have been able to make it to the US national team.

Representing Japan

When they received an offer from the Japanese Skating Federation to compete for their mother's homeland, the duo agreed. Starting from the 2006-2007 season, they represented Japan on the international stage. They immediately competed in the "adult" age group, skipping the junior level. In the 2007-2008 season, the Reids participated in the Grand Prix series and won their first gold at the national tournament, where no other ice dancing duos were present. They also made their debut at the World Championships, finishing in 16th place.

Continued Success

In the 2008-2009 season, they defended their national champion title, but this time they faced competition from two other duos. They also finished in 16th place at the World Championships, as they did the previous year. As the top-ranked Japanese dancers of the season, they were included in the country's team for the first-ever team World Championships, where they placed 5th and contributed 8 points to the team's score.
