Early Life and Career

Brandon Mroz was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on February 11, 1990. His mother was a successful synchronized skater, while his father played hockey professionally. Despite his parents' athletic background, Brandon initially aspired to become a dentist. However, he began skating at the age of 3.5.

Regional and National Competitions

From 2001 to 2004, Mroz competed in various regional events in his age group. In 2003, he won a regional gold medal as a novice, advanced to sectionals, and qualified for the U.S. Championships. At nationals, he placed 7th in both the short and free programs. Unfortunately, he failed to qualify for sectionals in 2004-05.

In his final season as a novice (2005-06), Mroz earned another regional gold and sectionals championship title, qualifying him for the U.S. Championships once again. This time, he performed exceptionally well, winning the short program and earning bronze in the free skate. He finished 2nd overall.

Junior Career

Mroz transitioned to the junior level in 2006. He started the season with a victory at the Triglav Trophy in Slovenia. He went on to win silver medals at the Junior Grand Prix events in Mexico City and Taipei City, securing his spot in the Junior Grand Prix Final. However, he finished 2nd in the final. At the U.S. Championships, he won another silver medal, again finishing behind Eliot Halverson.

The 2007-08 season followed a similar pattern. Mroz won gold at Junior Grand Prix events in Vienna and Chemnitz, advancing to the final where he earned another silver. At the U.S. Championships, he once again took silver, this time behind Adam Rippon.

Senior Career

Mroz made his senior debut in the 2008-09 season. He struggled in his first international events, finishing 7th at Skate Canada and 5th at the Trophée Eric Bompard. However, he redeemed himself at the U.S. Championships, where he placed 2nd in the free skate and 4th in the short program, earning another silver medal overall.

Mroz went on to compete at the 2009 Four Continents Championships and World Championships. At Four Continents, he finished 8th overall after placing 5th in the short program and 9th in the free skate. At Worlds, he finished 9th, placing 8th in the short program and 13th in the free skate.

In 2010, Mroz won his first senior Grand Prix medal, a silver at the Cup of China. On September 16, 2011, he made history by becoming the first skater in the world to land a quadruple Lutz in official competition.
