Biography of Cecelia Ahern

Cecelia Ahern is an Irish novelist who has published a dozen novels since 2002, two of which have been adapted into films and two are currently in the works. She was born on September 30, 1981, in Dublin, Ireland. Her father is the former Prime Minister of Ireland, Bertie Ahern. Her older sister, Georgina Ahern, is married to Nicky Byrne, former lead vocalist of the Irish pop group 'Westlife'.

Before starting her career as a writer and producer, Ahern earned a degree in journalism and mass communications from Griffith College in Dublin. In 2000, she was part of the pop group 'Shimma', which finished third in the national final for the Eurovision Song Contest.

On December 14, 2009, Ahern gave birth to her first child. She named her daughter Robin. Her second child, a boy named Sonny, was born on July 23, 2012.

In 2002, at the age of 21, Cecelia Ahern completed her first novel, 'PS, I Love You'. Published in 2004, the novel became a number one bestseller in Ireland for 19 weeks. It also topped the bestseller lists in the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, and the Netherlands, and was sold in over forty countries. The novel was adapted into a film in 2007, starring Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler.

Ahern's second book, the epistolary novel 'Where Rainbows End', also reached the top spot on the bestseller lists in Ireland and the United States. It won the CORINE Internationaler Buchpreis in 2005. In the United States, the book was published under the title 'Love, Rosie'. A film adaptation of the book, starring Lily Collins and Sam Claflin, is set to be released in October 2014.

Films are currently being made based on two more of Ahern's novels, 'If You Could See Me Now' (2005) and 'Thanks for the Memories' (2008). Her latest book, 'How to Fall in Love', was published in 2013.

Aside from her novels, Ahern has also published several short stories in various collections. She has been involved in the creation of the American sitcom 'Samantha Who?' on ABC, and has been chosen by the company 'Littlewoods Ireland' for their advertising campaigns.

Ahern's books have sold over 13 million copies and are available in 46 countries. She resides in Dublin with her family.
