Early Life and Education

Çetin Tekindor was born on July 16, 1945, in the eastern Turkish city of Sivas. Despite his family's lack of artistic background, Tekindor displayed an early passion for theater. He made his stage debut at the age of 18 in a patriotic play titled "Everything for the Motherland."

Theater Career

After graduating from the Ankara State Conservatory in 1970, Tekindor joined the Ankara State Theater. He initially played minor roles but gained recognition for his portrayal of Murat IV in the play of the same name. Depicting a tumultuous era in Ottoman history, this production became a cornerstone of the theater's repertoire.

While working at the theater, Tekindor also pursued voice acting, most notably providing the voice of Commissioner McMillan in the Turkish dubbed version of the television series "McMillan & Wife" in 1976.

Television Success

In 1983, Tekindor starred in the eight-episode television series "Küçük Ağa." His performance as a naive Muslim scholar who transforms into a guerrilla leader during the Turkish War of Independence became a triumph. For decades, he was known more for this role than his own name.

Film Breakthrough and Critical Acclaim

Tekindor's role in the 2005 film "Babam ve Oğlum" (My Father and My Son) marked a turning point in his career. In this emotionally gripping film, he played a revolutionary dying of tuberculosis who returns home to entrust his son to his father, who had never met his grandson. The film became a box office success, attracting over 3.8 million viewers and earning Tekindor numerous awards.

"Yalı Çapkını" and Recent Projects

In 2022, Tekindor starred in the popular television series "Yalı Çapkını" (The Kingfisher). He portrayed the patriarch of a wealthy jewelry empire, a stern businessman with familial struggles. The series also featured renowned Turkish actress Gözde Kansu.

Personal Life

Tekindor met his wife, actress Zerrin Tekindor, during their time at the Ankara State Theater. They married in 1987 and had a son, Hira, in 1989. After 12 years of marriage, they divorced due to Zerrin's desire to pursue her own artistic aspirations. Despite the separation, Zerrin retained her ex-husband's surname and praised his gentle and humorous personality off-screen.

Ongoing Legacy

Tekindor remains an active figure in the entertainment industry. He reprised his role in the second season of "Yalı Çapkını," which premiered in September 2023. His son, Hira Tekindor, has also pursued a career in the arts as a filmmaker.
