Biography of Tamzin Outhwaite

Tamzin Outhwaite, a British actress, gained fame for her role as Melanie Owen in the British drama series "EastEnders" from 1998 to 2002. She was born on November 5, 1970, in Ilford, Essex, England. As a teenager, Tamzin was involved in the theater company "Stagestruck" and performed in several productions in the mid-1980s. In 1987, she left school and joined the Central London Drama and Dance Studio, where one of her friends, leading lady Lucy Alexander, was studying. Tamzin played various roles on stage, including performances in the musicals "Grease" and "Oliver!" as well as working with the theater company of Steven Joseph, until she got a role in the British crime series "The Bill" and comedy "Men Behaving Badly".

Success in "EastEnders"

In 1998, Outhwaite achieved significant success by playing Melanie Healy in the popular soap opera "EastEnders". She first appeared in this role in October 1998 and bid farewell to it in March 2002. For almost four years, her character was central to the show's storyline. Outhwaite left "EastEnders" in 2002 shortly after Martin Kemp, another soap opera star who played her on-screen husband Steve Owen, left the series. After leaving the soap opera, Outhwaite's career continued to flourish. In late 2002, she landed her next role as Corporal Jo McDonagh in the army drama series "Red Cap" on BBC. She remained in the series until its closure in 2004. She went on to star in several television drama series, including portraying Catherine Winterburn in "Viva Blackpool", Natalie Taylor in "Final Demand", and Frances West in "Frances Tuesday". Outhwaite became the face of the cosmetics company "Avon" with a million-pound contract and also became a model for the "Spirit" line of the British company "Debenhams" in 2004. In 2005, Outhwaite began her foray into the Hollywood film industry. She played the lead role of Sergeant Kelly Anders alongside Wesley Snipes in the action film "7 Seconds", but the movie did not achieve significant success. She also portrayed Claire Holmes in the melodrama "Walk Away and I Stumble", where her character died from a brain tumor.

In 2006, Outhwaite became one of the stars of the ITV drama series "Vital Signs" as a frustrated mother who decides to quit her depressing job at a supermarket to attend medical school. She also played the role of hotel manager Rebecca Mitchell in the BBC series "Hotel Babylon". However, Outhwaite did not stay in "Hotel Babylon" for long, as she wanted to focus on other projects. In October 2006, she landed the leading role of Lily Taylor in the thriller "Backwaters". Outhwaite also appeared as a guest presenter on four episodes of the Channel 4 series "The Friday Night Project" in January 2007. She took part in the revival of the French classic farce "Boeing Boeing" at the Comedy Theater and starred in Woody Allen's thriller "Cassandra's Dream" and Andrew Silver's drama "Radio Cape Cod". Outhwaite joined the star-studded ensemble cast of the ITV drama series "The Fixer" in March and April 2008. Additionally, she appeared in films such as "Mystery of Dr. Martinu", "Out of Control", and "When I'm Sixty-Four".

Personal Life

Outhwaite was born and raised in Ilford, Essex, just like her brother Kes. Her mother is Italian. The actress is married to "EastEnders" actor Tom Ellis. The couple has their own home in North London. Outhwaite is the stepmother of Ellis's daughter Nora from a previous relationship. In June 2008, Tamzin gave birth to their daughter, Florence Elsie Ellis. Outhwaite and Ellis appeared together in a special Christmas episode of "The Catherine Tate Show", but in separate sketches (Tom in the play "Ma Willow" and Tamzin in a sketch with Paul and Sam). Outhwaite can also be seen in the music video for the song "Mysterious Ways" by the band U2.
