Origins and Formation

In the bustling theater of "Zazerkalye," the paths of Denis Klyaver and Stanislav Kostyushkin crossed in the 1990s. Klyaver, the son of renowned actor and TV host Ilya Oleynikov, and Kostyushkin, the offspring of jazz musician Mikhail Kostyushkin, shared a mutual passion for music. It was Oleynikov, upon witnessing their musical chemistry, who suggested the creation of a duo. With an initial investment of $88,000 from Oleynikov, "Chai Vdvoem" ("Tea for Two") was born on December 20, 1994, at the grand opening of the St. Petersburg branch of "Evropa Plus" radio station.

Early Success and Name Selection

Participating in numerous music competitions, the group initially lacked a name. However, for the Viktor Reznikov contest, they were required to choose one and settled on "Piloty" ("Pilots"). Yet, it was Alexander Revzin, the director of the competition, who insisted on the name "Chai Vdvoem." Their participation in subsequent competitions and industry events, such as "Yalta-Moscow-Transit," "Big Apple New York," and performances in popular St. Petersburg clubs, further raised their profile.

Collaborations and Breakthrough

A significant turning point for the group came with the patronage of Mikhail Shufutinsky, who invited them on tour. Their earnings allowed them to finance their debut music video. However, it was their collaboration with Liana Vaisle that truly propelled their careers into the mainstream. For two years, they worked alongside the legendary artist, gaining invaluable experience in transforming concerts into spectacular live performances.

Mainstream Triumph and Recognition

In 1996, "Chai Vdvoem" made their debut on the prestigious "Pesnya Goda" festival with their hit song "Cheremukha." Their first major solo concert in St. Petersburg followed in 1999. From 2000 onwards, their songs became ubiquitous on radio stations, solidifying their status as pop music heavyweights.

Entrepreneurial Ventures

Beyond music, the duo embarked on a series of business ventures. In 2000, they established the art agency "Chai Vdvoem," specializing in event planning. In 2008, they launched "Chai Vdvoem Production," a sound production center that managed artists, produced songs, and collaborated with renowned musicians such as Zhanna Friske and Zemfira.

Later Years and Disbandment

Despite their accomplishments, "Chai Vdvoem" faced challenges in the 2010s. In 2011, they considered disbanding, but it was not until 2012 that they officially parted ways. The decision was attributed to a decline in concert bookings and the cancellation of the television show "Gorodok," following the passing of Denis Klyaver's father, Ilya Oleynikov. Since then, Klyaver has pursued a solo career, while Kostyushkin launched the project "A-Dessa."
