Early Life and Education
Leo van Doeselaar, a Dutch organist and conductor, was born in the Netherlands. He embarked on his musical journey at the Amsterdam and Utrecht conservatories, where he honed his skills in piano and organ performance under the tutelage of renowned organist Anton van der Horst. Seeking further inspiration, he ventured to Paris to study with the acclaimed organist Jeanne Demessieux.
Recognition and Awards
In 1965, van Doeselaar's talent was recognized on the international stage when he triumphed at the prestigious Gaudeamus International Competition. Three years later, he earned the "Edison Award," a prestigious Dutch recording award, for his masterful rendition of Johann Sebastian Bach's organ works. His passion for exploration extended to the music of Olivier Messiaen, making him the first Dutch organist to perform his organ compositions.

In addition to his organ prowess, van Doeselaar also distinguished himself as a conductor. From 1965 onwards, he led the Netherlands Bach Choir, guiding them through unforgettable performances. His repertoire spanned classical masterpieces, including Mozart's Coronation Mass, which he directed during the coronation of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands in 1980.
