Early Life and Education
Frank Carlo Carabella was born in Italy and studied music at the Conservatory of St. Cecilia in Rome under Pietro Mascagni. He continued his studies at the Naples Conservatory, graduating in 1907.
Musical Career in Italy
Following his graduation, Carabella taught music at the Benedictine monastery of Monte Cassino and later at the Catholic seminary of St. Joseph near New York City. From 1927 onwards, he served as choirmaster and organist at the Church of St. Mary in Albany, New York.
Founding the Albany Orchestra
In 1931, Carabella founded the Albany People's Orchestra, which later became the Albany Symphony Orchestra. He served as its first principal conductor until 1939.
Later Years
After his resignation from the orchestra, Carabella continued teaching in and around Albany. He participated in a celebratory concert marking the orchestra's anniversary in 1955, conducting his own symphonic poem titled "The Helderbergs."
Legacy
