Charlie Baltimore is an American singer, songwriter, and rapper known for her work in the R&B, hip-hop, and rap genres. Born Tiffany Lane on August 16, 1974 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Charlie Baltimore has had a successful career, releasing two albums and around 20 singles. She is also famous for her highly publicized relationship with rapper Notorious B.I.G. and has been awarded a Grammy.
Early Life and Family
Tiffany Lane, who would later become known as Charlie Baltimore, was born into a diverse family in Philadelphia. Her father was German, and her mother was African-American. Due to constant conflicts and disputes between her parents, Tiffany was primarily raised by her older sister Yolanda. Growing up, she experienced firsthand the struggles of racism.
As a child, Tiffany was unruly and often got into trouble with her cousin, causing problems for her sister. While in the 10th grade, Tiffany became a mother to her first child, India, which forced her to mature and pursue an education to support herself. She attended Peirce College in Philadelphia, studying law. However, she dropped out of college after deciding to have her second child.
Career and Personal Struggles
In the summer of 1995, Tiffany attended a concert that would forever change her life. She met rapper Notorious B.I.G., and they began a passionate relationship. Notorious recognized Tiffany's lyrical talent and impressive vocal abilities, leading to the birth of rapper Charlie Baltimore. She took her stage name from a character played by Gina Davis in the film "The Long Kiss Goodnight". Notorious actively supported Tiffany's career and, along with Jay-Z, they formed a group and recorded several singles.
In 1997, tragedy struck as Tiffany's father passed away, followed by the suicide of her son's father and the death of her close friend Lovell. Overwhelmed by grief, Tiffany fell into depression and attempted suicide by overdosing on medication. She was revived by paramedics and took time away from the public eye to reflect on her life. In 1998, she released her first music video, and the following year, she shared her experiences in her album "Cold As Ice", which became a success.
In 2002, Tiffany released her second album titled "The Diary (You Think You Know)" and received a Grammy award for Best Rap Female Artist. In recent years, Charlie Baltimore has released several hit singles and collaborated with numerous well-known rappers. Her new album was released in 2009, and another album is planned for 2010.
