Biography of Charlie Rose
Charlie Rose (Charles Peete Rose Jr.) was born on January 5, 1942, in Henderson, North Carolina. After excelling as a basketball player in school, Rose attended Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Alongside his studies, he worked with children in the Head Start program. During one of his summer breaks, with the support of his family, Charlie interned as an office assistant for North Carolina Senator Everett Jordan. According to his own words, this internship turned him into a "political addict," prompting him to change his major to history. In 1964, Rose earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and went on to study law at Duke University. In 1968, he received a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree. However, despite his prestigious legal degree, Charlie realized that a legal career was not for him. In an interview with the Chicago Tribune in January 1993, he stated, "Once I spent some time in a law firm, sitting in on a lawyer-client conversation, I realized I'd rather be the client than the lawyer."

The Nightwatch and The Charlie Rose Show
Charlie Rose fondly recalls his six and a half years as the host of "Nightwatch" as a "wonderful time." He told a reporter, "If it weren't for Nightwatch, I would never have ended up where I am today. My show, 'The Charlie Rose Show,' is a direct descendant of Nightwatch, as the guest lists in both shows completely overlap." Just like in his own show, "Nightwatch" did not limit its guest list to influential figures. Among the many individuals whose activities or stories captured Rose's attention was convicted murderer Charles Manson, whom he interviewed for three hours.

Personal Life
Charlie Rose's twelve-year marriage to Mary Rose ended in divorce in 1980, but he considers her one of his closest friends. He resides in an apartment in Manhattan that is filled "to excess" with various electronic equipment. On weekends, when he is not socializing in New York or preparing for his show, he either travels to North Carolina or visits a friend's farm in northern New York. During long drives, Rose enjoys listening to audiobooks or cassettes.
