Early Life and Career
Cheikhou Kouyaté, a Senegalese footballer, was born in 1989. His journey began at age 19 when he signed with Brussels in 2007. His impressive performances caught the attention of Belgian powerhouse Anderlecht, who signed him to a 4-year deal in 2008.
Club Career
Kouyaté's first season with Anderlecht was spent on loan at Kortrijk, where he recorded 3 goals in 26 appearances. He returned to Anderlecht in 2010 and extended his contract until 2014.
International Career
Kouyaté represented Senegal at the 2012 Olympics and participated in the qualifying matches for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Transfer Interest and Move to West Ham
As Kouyaté's contract neared its expiration in 2014, interest in his services arose from West Ham, Arsenal, Galatasaray, and CSKA Moscow. Kouyaté previously rejected a move to Dynamo Moscow, citing his preference for the English Premier League. In the summer of 2014, he joined West Ham United.
