Biography of Cheryl Holdridge

Cheryl Holdridge was an American actress most known for being a member of the original cast of the American television show 'The Mickey Mouse Club'. She was born as Cheryl Lynn Phelps in New Orleans, the largest city in the state of Louisiana, USA. Her mother, Julie A. Phelps, was a dancer who performed on Broadway with her partner Dick Mason. The identity of Cheryl's biological father was never determined. Shortly after Cheryl's birth, Julie brought her to Burbank, California. In 1950, her mother married Herbert Charles Holdridge, a retired brigadier general involved in political movements operating on the fringes of the law. Herbert adopted Cheryl in 1953 and gave her his last name. The future actress grew up in Sherman Oaks, a town in California now known as the hometown of actress Jennifer Aniston.

Early Career

Cheryl started taking dance lessons at a young age, studying both ballet and tap with Joyce Cole in North Hollywood. She made her first professional appearance at the age of nine, earning a role in the New York City Ballet's production of 'The Nutcracker'. In 1956, Cheryl made her on-screen debut in the musical film 'Carousel' directed by Henry King, playing the role of "Young Girl #2". Her role was so small that her name wasn't even listed in the film credits.

The Mickey Mouse Club

After auditioning for the Disney television show 'The Mickey Mouse Club' in the spring of 1956, Cheryl joined the cast as part of the "Red Team," the most prominent and popular among the other teams. The members of the cast were called "Mouseketeers." Cheryl was a talented dancer, but due to her weak vocals, she often found herself in the background of most musical numbers. During her time on the show, Cheryl also appeared in two episodes of the TV series 'Boys of the Western Sea' and 'Annette'.

Later Career

When her time on 'The Mickey Mouse Club' ended, Cheryl returned to Van Nuys High School and graduated from Grant High School in the winter of 1961. In 1959, she joined the cast of the TV series 'Leave It to Beaver', appearing in two episodes as Gloria Kaschik. She later made guest appearances in various TV shows including 'The Rifleman' with Chuck Norris, 'My Three Sons', 'I Dream of Jeannie', and 'The Dick Van Dyke Show'.

Personal Life and Death

Cheryl's television career flourished in the 1960s. However, she unexpectedly stopped acting in 1964 after getting married. She made a brief comeback in 2005 with a small role in the film 'The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas'. Cheryl also appeared at the 50th anniversary of Disneyland and the anniversary celebration of 'The Mickey Mouse Club'.

Cheryl was married three times. Her first husband was athlete Lance Reventlow, who died in a plane crash in 1972. Her second husband, Albert James 'Jim' Skarda, was involved in car rentals in Aspen, Colorado. Her third husband, Manning J. Post, was a prominent Democratic political figure in California. He passed away on March 13, 2000, at the age of 82.

Cheryl Holdridge died on January 6, 2009, from lung cancer.
