Biography of Chan Yung-jan
Early Life and CareerChan Yung-jan was born on January 10, 1985, in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Her father, Chuang Wen-Teng, was her first tennis coach. She began playing tennis at the age of seven. Chan attended Taipei Physical Education College.
Grand Slam Success
Chan reached the finals of the Australian Open in 2007 in the women's doubles tournament with Chan Yung-jan. They fell to Cara Black and Liezel Huber in the final. Chan also competed in the final of the US Open the same year, partnering with Chan Yung-jan again. They lost to Nathalie Dechy and Dinara Safina.
Professional Career
Chan has not yet won any Women's Tennis Association (WTA) tournaments. However, she has established herself as a highly skilled player in the International Tennis Federation (ITF). She excels particularly in doubles.
Chan frequently pairs with Chan Yung-jan, but she has also had success with other partners. In the fall of 2008, she won two doubles championships with Hsieh Su-wei.
In April 2009, Chan partnered with Sania Mirza, Zi Yan, and Lisa Raymond to achieve victories. In 2010, she won with Kveta Peschke and Olga Govortsova.
Chan's most recent doubles victory came with Akgul Amanmuradova. She has also played in mixed doubles, though she is more consistent when partnering with female players.
Rankings and Personal Life
Chan has never risen above 177th in the world rankings for singles. However, she has had more success in doubles. As of August 18, 2008, she was ranked 5th in the world.
In her free time, Chan enjoys watching movies, shopping, and singing. She is fluent in Taiwanese, English, and Mandarin.
