Chris Anderson, "Birdman"

Chris Anderson, nicknamed "Birdman" for his extensive tattoos, was an American professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was an NBA champion with the Miami Heat in 2012-13.

Early Life and College

Anderson was born in Long Beach, California, and raised in Ajola, Texas. After graduating high school, he attended Blinn College for one year before declaring for the 1999 NBA Draft. However, he went undrafted and began his professional career in China with the Jiangsu Dragons. He then played for two years in minor American leagues.

NBA Career

In 2001, Anderson finally entered the NBA as a member of the Denver Nuggets. He later moved to the New Orleans Hornets in 2004. Anderson participated in the NBA All-Star Saturday Night slam dunk contest in both 2004 and 2005.

Drug Suspension and Return

On January 25, 2006, Anderson was suspended for two years for violating the NBA's anti-drug policy. With the assistance of the National Basketball Players Association, he returned to the Hornets in March 2008. He later re-signed with the Nuggets that summer as a free agent on a one-year contract.

Block-Shot Specialist

In the 2008-09 season, Anderson emerged as a reserve and became the league's second-leading shot-blocker with 175 blocks, behind only Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard's 231. He became known for his remarkable shot-blocking ability.

Final Years

Anderson signed a new five-year, $26 million contract in the summer of 2009. He went on to play for the Heat, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Cleveland Cavaliers before retiring in 2017.
