Biography of Chris DeRosa
Chris DeRosa is a composer, arranger, and producer who studied at Berklee College of Music, where he received the prestigious Buddy Rich Jazz Masters scholarship. He also attended the University of Miami, where he was awarded the Bowman Ashe scholarship for artistic and academic achievements. At the University of Miami, he earned a degree in jazz performance.
Professional Career
Chris DeRosa is a professional independent drummer, producer, and composer. He currently resides in New York, although his extensive experience has led him to travel to over 44 countries. Chris has collaborated and recorded with renowned artists such as Deborah Harry and Chris Stein, Ben Stivers, Tony Scherr, Phil Perry, Laura Down, Leo Traversa, Jefferson Thomas, Monica Allison, Jeff Baker, Nadia Ali, Motorbaby, Rick Ross, Melba Moore, Tom Jennings, Nori Nori, Jed Davis, Willie Ruff, Quintet Lolita Jackson, Quartet Billy Brown, and the Yale University Ensemble.
He has also been involved in Broadway shows such as "O! Calcutta" (which toured worldwide), "Grease," "Songs of Paradise," and "The Mikado." Chris has worked with notable producers including Daniel Rey ("White Zombie"), Steve Eigner ("Nelly"), John Brion, Roger Fife ("Tricky"), and George Fullan ("The Rolling Stones," "Taking Back Sunday," "Twisted Sister," "Dream Theater," and "Cheap Trick").
In the world of dance, Chris has represented, composed music, or accompanied dance studios such as Barbara Feldman, Gus Solomon Jr., Ron Brown and "Evidence," David Brown, Andrea Woods' "Souloworks," Kun-Yang Lin, Bebe Miller, Sean Curran, Anne Marie Forsyth, Kevin Wynn, Ellis Wood Studios, David Dorfman, Mark Morris, Elisa Monte, Gina Gibney, Paul Taylor, and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, among many others. He has also collaborated with Barnard College, the "2nd Avenue" dance association, and "The Island Moving" company.
Chris is a strong advocate for the idea of popular artists performing church music. He willingly performs in churches, contributing to the popularization of religion among young people. With his vast stage experience, Chris has given lectures at Manhattan College as an assistant professor, NYACK School of Music as a guest lecturer, and NYU's Tisch School of the Arts as a resident musician and guest lecturer.
