Chris Gunter: Welsh International and Full-Back

Chris Gunter's footballing journey began with Durham Colts and Albion Rovers as a forward. However, upon joining Cardiff City's youth academy, he transitioned to the role of a defender, primarily operating at right-back.

Cardiff City Breakthrough

On August 1, 2006, Gunter signed his first professional contract with Cardiff City alongside fellow academy graduate Darcey Blake. He made his club debut in a League Cup match against Barnet on August 22, 2006. Gunter's impressive performances in the first team, often due to injuries to senior defenders, earned him the Football League Young Player of the Year award in March 2007.

Premier League Transfer to Tottenham

Following his breakthrough at Cardiff, Gunter attracted interest from Premier League club Everton, who made two unsuccessful bids for the player. On December 21, 2007, Cardiff announced an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur over a compensation fee for Gunter's transfer. Tottenham "matched their valuation" of the player, reportedly in the region of £4 million. Gunter underwent a medical at White Hart Lane on December 22, and the transfer was completed for £3 million on December 24, effective when the transfer window reopened on January 1, 2008. Gunter made his Tottenham debut in the third round of the FA Cup against Reading.

Loan to Nottingham Forest and Permanent Transfer

On March 12, 2009, Gunter joined Nottingham Forest on loan until the end of the 2008-09 season. Tottenham agreed to transfer Gunter permanently to Forest on July 17, 2009, for a fee of £1.75 million. Gunter signed a four-year contract with his new club on July 20, 2009.

International Career

Gunter represented Wales at various youth levels from 2003-04. He made his senior international debut against New Zealand on May 26, 2007, becoming Cardiff's youngest ever international. Gunter played as a left-back during the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign, impressing in two matches against Republic of Ireland (2-2 draw) and Germany (0-0 draw).
