Early Life and Education
Christian Camargo was born on July 7, 1971 in New York City. His mother, Victoria Wyndham, was an actress. Camargo attended Hobart College, where he graduated in 1992. He was also the program director of the college's radio station. After college, Camargo attended the Juilliard Drama School and later made his Broadway debut in "Skylight" with Michael Gambon.
Rise to Fame
Camargo's performance in "Skylight" caught the attention of the automotive company Fast Ashleys, which specialized in customizing vintage American sports cars. He became the face of the company and starred in their reality show "Fast Inc." on MTV.
In 2008, Camargo joined the acting company of the Globe Theatre in London. There, he met his wife, British actress Juliet Rylance, whose stepfather was the acclaimed theater director and playwright Mark Rylance. The couple married in November 2008.
Theater Career
Camargo has performed on numerous New York stages. In 2008, he appeared in Arthur Miller's "All My Sons" on Broadway alongside Dianne Wiest, John Lithgow, and Katie Holmes. In 2009, Camargo played the title role in "Hamlet" at the Theater for a New Audience, earning an Obie Award and a Drama League Award nomination.
Camargo has also performed in productions of "As You Like It" and "The Tempest" alongside his wife. The couple toured with these productions to London, Singapore, Hong Kong, Amsterdam, and Madrid.
Personal Life
Camargo's grandfather, Ralph Camargo, was a Mexican-American actor who often complained that his ethnic background limited his acting opportunities. Camargo, however, embraced his heritage.
Quote: "[When we first started dating] my father suggested that we get on a boat and head out to the open sea for two weeks, just to get to know each other. Well, this tour has been like that boat, except our voyage has lasted a whole year."
