German Racing Driver and Formula One Champion
Early Career and Formula Two SuccessMichael Schumacher, a renowned German racing driver, began his professional career in the German Touring Car Championship with Renault 5 and BMW M1 cars. In 1982, he joined March Engineering as a lead driver in Formula Two. From 1982 to 1984, he competed in Formula Two, and in 1985, he became the inaugural champion of Formula 3000 after the Formula Two championship was rebranded.
Formula One Debut and Early Struggles
Later in 1985, Schumacher made his Formula One debut for Zakspeed in the final two races of the season. In 1986, he joined Osella for a full Formula One campaign but was later replaced by Marc Surer at Arrows. After a disappointing stint with Zakspeed in 1987, Schumacher left Formula One for the German Touring Car Championship.
Return to Formula One and Limited Success
In 1989, Schumacher returned to Formula One with Rial but qualified only four times throughout the season. Despite this, he remained in the sport, competing in the German Touring Car Championship, Japanese Formula 3000, CART, DTM, and ITC from 1990 onwards.
Post-Formula One Career
Since 2005, Schumacher has participated in the GP Masters series. He has also served as a sports commentator for the German television network RTL.
