Biography of Christian Siriano
Early Life and EducationChristian Siriano, an American fashion designer, was born and raised in Annapolis, Maryland. He comes from a mixed Italian and German heritage. Siriano's parents divorced when he was four years old, but his father remained an important part of his life. Siriano developed an interest in the arts at a young age, with his parents encouraging his passion. He studied ballet and was actively involved in theater, specifically costume design. At the age of 13, Siriano started designing his own clothes and worked as a hairstylist and assistant stylist to support himself. He also learned about the fashion business while in school.
Early Career
Although Siriano was unable to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology, he was accepted into the American InterContinental University in London. One of his teachers advised him to intern with Vivienne Westwood and later with Alexander McQueen. Before his appearance on the fourth season of "Project Runway," Siriano worked as a freelance stylist for Stila cosmetics, often creating exclusive wedding dresses. He was encouraged to audition for the show by a family friend.
"Project Runway" Victory and Career Success
During the season, Siriano won four challenges and emerged as the overall winner, becoming the youngest winner in the show's history. As a result, he had the opportunity to present his collection at New York Fashion Week. Siriano's collection was inspired by Dumas and his stories of musketeers, featuring feathers, elaborate headpieces, and ruffles. He impressed the judges, including Victoria Beckham, and won the competition on March 5, 2008. After his victory, Siriano signed a contract to create a new collection for Puma and was commissioned to design a series of outfits for the Gaia Online prom. In September 2008, he debuted his first fashion line, "Christian V. Siriano," at New York Fashion Week.
Continued Success and Collaborations
Siriano continued to showcase his collections at New York Fashion Week in subsequent years. His fall 2009 collection garnered attention from agents at New York retailer Saks Fifth Avenue. In February 2009, Siriano collaborated with LG to design the "LG Lotus," a fashion-forward phone. The partnership was praised for creating a phone tailored to fashion enthusiasts. In October 2009, Siriano released his book "Fierce Style: How To Be Your Most Fabulous," co-written with Rennie Dyball, and featuring an introduction by his former mentor on "Project Runway," Tim Gunn. Siriano is openly gay and currently resides in Chelsea, Manhattan, with his long-term boyfriend, singer and songwriter Brad Walsh.
