Biography of Cris Santos
IntroductionCris Santos, professionally known as Cris Cyborg, is a Brazilian-American mixed martial artist who competes in the Bellator organization. She is currently the reigning champion in the Bellator women's featherweight division and has previously held titles in Strikeforce, Invicta, and UFC.
Early Career
Cris Cyborg made her professional debut in mixed martial arts on April 11, 2009, at the Strikeforce: Shamrock vs. Diaz event. She faced Hitomi Akano and won the fight by technical knockout in the third round. Cyborg continued her winning streak and gained recognition in the sport.
Strikeforce Champion
At the Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg event, Cris Cyborg faced Gina Carano for the Strikeforce women's featherweight championship. She won the fight by technical knockout and became the champion in the division.
She successfully defended her title against Marloes Coenen on January 30, 2010, winning by technical knockout in the third round.
UFC Career
In March 2015, it was announced that Cris Cyborg had signed a contract with the UFC. She made her UFC debut at UFC 198 against Leslie Smith in a catchweight bout at 140 pounds. Cyborg won the fight by technical knockout in the first round. She continued her success in the UFC, defeating opponents such as Lina Lansberg and Holly Holm.
In 2018, Cyborg defended her title against Yana Kunitskaya at UFC 222, winning the fight in the first round. However, she suffered a loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 232, losing the UFC women's featherweight championship.
After her contract with the UFC was not renewed, Cyborg had her final fight in the organization against Felicia Spencer at UFC 240. The fight went the full three rounds, and Cyborg won by a unanimous decision.

Cris Cyborg was previously married to Brazilian fighter Evangelista Santos. She took his last name and inherited his fighting nickname "Cyborg." The couple divorced in December 2011.
