Biography of Christina Schmidt
Christina Schmidt is a renowned dancer and choreographer who has been performing on stage for the past 45 years. She first discovered the art of eurhythmics when she was just 15 years old, after watching a mesmerizing performance by the Else-Klink Ensemble. The dancers' movements seemed effortless and beautiful, almost as if they were angels. After three days of classes, Christina knew that she wanted to dedicate her life to eurhythmics, and it turned out to be the right decision.
The Essence of Eurhythmics
For Christina, eurhythmics is her very being. It is a form of dance that expresses music, where the body becomes an instrument. Music consists of various components such as rhythm, melody, tempo, and character. Trying to express everything at once is impossible, so dancers focus on highlighting a specific aspect. The sounds of a symphony orchestra continue in the movements of the dancers on stage, while the unique atmosphere of the performance is created by a lighting artist.
A Long-Standing Ensemble
Christina is a part of one of the oldest ensembles in Europe. The eurhythmics school, called Euritmeum, was founded in Stuttgart by Rudolf and Maria Steiner in 1924. Elsie Klink took over as the school's director in 1935, and the ensemble was named after her. The "Symphony-Eurhythmics" project is a collaboration with the Swiss Goetheanum-Buhne troupe. The first concert took place in 2004. Eurhythmics is highly popular in Europe, with both professional ensembles and many enthusiasts. It is an excellent way to spend time for the mind and body.
Music Selection for Performances
In their performances, Christina and her ensemble work with music from various eras. They have collaborated with the Gnesin Virtuosos Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Mikhail Khokhlov, for several years. They have performed pieces by Mozart, Beethoven, Bruckner, Dvorak, Shostakovich, Schnittke, and Gubaidulina.
Internationally Acclaimed Productions
One of Christina's most well-known productions is "Peer Gynt" set to the music of Edvard Grieg, based on Henrik Ibsen's play. This production involved not only dancers but also professional actors and orchestral musicians, totaling around one hundred performers.
For Anyone and Everyone
Eurhythmics is accessible to people of all ages. In Christina's ensemble, the oldest dancer is sixty years old, proving that anyone can engage in eurhythmics and find enjoyment in it.
