Early Life and Acting Career
Christina Kaufmann was born in the German town of Langdorf to a French mother and a German father who was an officer in the Luftwaffe. At the age of seven, she made her debut in the musical comedy "Im wei?en Ro?l" directed by Willy Forst. She then went on to play the role of Dasha in Victor Tourjansky's drama "Salto Mortale" and captured the hearts of German audiences with her performance in Harald Reinl's melodrama "Rosen-Resli".
Rise to Stardom
From 1954 to 1959, Christina appeared in over ten films, including Harald Reinl's drama "Silence of Angels" and "Heart Beats for Erika," Thomas Engel's musical "Voice of Longing," and Erich Engel's comedy "Widower with Five Daughters." Her role in Mario Bonnard and Sergio Leone's epic film "The Last Day of Pompeii" earned her widespread acclaim and popularity in Germany.
International Recognition
In 1961, Christina gained international recognition for her role as the victim in Gottfried Reinhardt's courtroom drama "Town Without Pity" alongside Kirk Douglas. Her performance earned her the prestigious Golden Globe award for Most Promising Newcomer. She continued to excel in films such as Robert Siodmak's "Escape from East Berlin," J. Lee Thompson's "Taras Bulba," and Lionello De Felice's "Constantine the Great."
Marriage and Personal Life
In 1963, Christina married the renowned Hollywood actor Tony Curtis. They had two daughters together before their marriage ended in divorce due to growing differences and career struggles. Christina returned to Germany with her children, and Tony went on to marry Leslie Allen.
Career Revival and Business Ventures
Upon her return to Germany, Christina embarked on a new phase of her career as a mature actress. She collaborated with German director Werner Schroeter, starring in his theatrical productions of "Emilia Galotti" and "Salome," as well as his films "The Death of Maria Malibran," "The Willow Bends," and "Golden Flakes." Recent Years
