Early Life and Career Aspirations

Charles Michael Melton was born on January 4, 1991, in Juneau, Alaska, to a mixed-race father of English and American descent and a Korean mother who immigrated to the United States. His childhood was marked by frequent relocations and school changes due to his father's military career, but despite these challenges, Charles developed a passion for acting at a young age.

Journey to Los Angeles

After graduating high school, Charles attended Kansas State University and joined the school's football team. However, he eventually decided to pursue his childhood dream of acting and moved to Los Angeles in 2012 with limited funds and a supply of chicken noodle soup from his mother.

Modeling Success

To make ends meet, Charles initially worked as a waiter and a dog walker. His striking good looks, however, led him to a successful modeling career. He collaborated with brands such as Armani, Azalea, Dolce & Gabbana, Hollister, and John Russo.

Breakthrough with "Riverdale"

Charles's first on-screen appearance was as a model in the TV series "Glee." In 2015, he made his acting debut in "American Horror Story: Hotel." His breakout role came in 2016 when he joined the cast of the teen drama "Riverdale" as Reggie Mantle, a character previously portrayed by Ross Butler. Despite initial skepticism from fans, Charles quickly won them over with his portrayal.

Leading Man in "The Sun Is Also a Star"

In 2019, Charles starred in "The Sun Is Also a Star," a film adaptation of Nicola Yoon's novel of the same name. He played Daniel Bae, a hopeless romantic and son of Korean immigrants who falls in love with Natasha Kingsley, a pragmatic and cynical girl of Jamaican descent.

Recent Projects

Since "Riverdale," Charles has appeared in a number of films, including "Bad Boys for Life" with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. He also starred in the romantic comedy "Love Hard" alongside Nina Dobrev.

Personal Life

Charles's personal life has been the subject of speculation, but he publicly dated actress Camila Mendes from 2018 to 2019. Since then, he has remained private about his relationships.
