Biography of Claude Zidi
Claude Zidi, a French cinematographer, was born in Paris. After graduating from the "Condorcet" high school, he enrolled in the Higher Technical School of Photography and Cinema, and later served in the army.
Early Career
Zidi's journey in the film industry began in 1958, where he worked as a camera operator assistant for ten years. In 1969, he worked as the main cinematographer for Maurice Druon's drama film "Eliza, or Real Life".
Comedic Director
In 1971, Zidi made his debut as a comedic director with the film "Les novices" (The Novices), featuring the comedy group "Les Charlots". Over the next three years, he collaborated with the same artists to make three more zany comedies. Some of his most popular entertaining films include "He Starts to Get Angry" ("The Condiment Hits the Nose") and "Don't Take Your Eyes Off the Hands" with Pierre Richard, "Wing or Leg" and "Fued" with Louis de Funès, "The Monster" with Jean-Paul Belmondo, "Cop or Hood" and "Banzai!" in which Coluche played the leading roles.
Satirical Parodies
Zidi's films later took on a satirical and parodic direction, evident in "Open Season" (which won the Cesar Award for Best Film of the Year), its sequel "Selling Out", and "Association of Wrongdoers". It is also worth mentioning his film "Total Monitoring", of which a remake titled "True Lies" was made three years later by James Cameron.
Recent Work
Among Claude Zidi's recent films is the eccentric comedy "Asterix & Obelix Take On Caesar", starring Gerard Depardieu, Christian Clavier, and Roberto Benigni.
