Claudia Julissa Cruz Rodríguez, known as Claudia Cruz, was born on February 5, 1986, in Bonao, Dominican Republic. She gained recognition as a Dominican beauty pageant contestant and represented her country in the Miss World competition in 2004.

Participation in Miss Dominican Republic

After finishing as the fifth runner-up in the Miss Dominican Republic 2004 pageant, where Larimar Fiallo emerged as the winner, Cruz decided to give it another try. She was selected as one of the contestants for the revamped and independent Miss World Dominican Republic pageant.

Miss World Dominican Republic 2004

For the first time in the history of such events, the Miss World Dominican Republic competition took the format of a reality show. The semi-finalists were judged by a panel, while the finalists and winners were chosen through public voting. On October 10, 2004, Cruz won the competition with 66% of the votes.

Success at Miss World

Despite the limited preparation time for the Miss World competition, Cruz managed to achieve significant success. She won the title of "Continental Queen of the Caribbean" and finished as the first runner-up, only behind María Julia Mantilla from Peru. Cruz became the first beauty queen from the Dominican Republic to be chosen as the winner of a beauty pageant based on public voting. She also achieved the second-best result among all Dominican participants in Miss World, with only Mariasela Alvarez Lebron surpassing her by winning Miss World 1982.

Passing the Crown and Family Life

Cruz handed over her crown to her successor, Elisa Abreu, on July 10, 2005. She has a sister named Carolina Cruz de Martínez, who is a sports journalist and is married to the famous Dominican pitcher Pedro Martínez.
