Claudia Cobizeva: A Renowned Moldovan Sculptor
Early Life and EducationBorn in Moldova, Claudia Cobizeva pursued her passion for art from a young age. From 1926 to 1931, she honed her skills at the Chisinau Art School under the tutelage of Alexander Plămădeală. Subsequently, she embarked on advanced studies abroad, first at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels from 1931 to 1934 and then at the workshop of Constantin Medrea in Bucharest from 1934 to 1936.
Return to Moldova and Artistic Influences
Upon returning to Bessarabia in 1936, Cobizeva immersed herself in the cultural traditions of her homeland. After the establishment of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic, she dedicated her artistic vision to capturing the essence of Moldavian women and laborers.
Notable Works and Recognition
Among her renowned creations are:"Head of a Moldavian Woman" (wood, 1947)
"Lumberman" (plaster, 1962)
"Let There Always Be Peace!" (plaster, 1965)
"On the Liberated Land" (plaster, 1967; State Prize of the Moldavian SSR, 1968)
Cobizeva's works found a permanent home in the National Art Museum of Moldova in Chisinau. Additionally, her sculptural group "Gifts of Moldova" (bronze, 1959) stands proudly in Tiraspol.
