Early Life and Professional Career
Cor Adriaanse, a Dutch footballer and coach, began his professional career with De Volewijckers in 1964. He played for the club for six years before joining FC Utrecht in 1970. After six seasons with Utrecht, Adriaanse retired from professional football at the age of 29.
Coaching Career
Adriaanse started his coaching career with Zilvermeeuwen in 1979. Four years later, he joined AZ as a scout and youth team coach. In 1984, he became the head coach of FC Zwolle, where he stayed for two years before signing a similar contract with ADO Den Haag.
Ajax Youth Team and FC Willem II
Adriaanse then served as the head coach of AFC Ajax's youth team for five seasons. In 1995, he took over as manager of FC Willem II. Under his leadership, the team achieved a second-place finish in the Eredivisie and earned the Dutch "Team of the Year" award. The club made its UEFA Champions League debut, but was eliminated in the group stage.
AFC Ajax Manager
Adriaanse returned to Ajax as manager in 2000. After a third-place finish in his first season, he was dismissed in November 2001. Ronald Koeman, who succeeded Adriaanse, led Ajax to their 29th Eredivisie title.
AZ Alkmaar and Qatar National Team
In November 2002, Adriaanse signed with AZ Alkmaar. After a 10th-place finish in his first season, the club improved to fifth in the following campaign and qualified for the UEFA Cup. In January 2010, Adriaanse was appointed head coach of the Qatar national team, signing a 2.5-year contract.
FC Twente Manager
Adriaanse became the manager of FC Twente in June 2011. He signed a one-year contract with the club.
