Cody Hall: Overcoming Facial Deformity and Finding Happiness
Cody Hall, a 25-year-old British woman, has gone through a remarkable journey of overcoming facial deformity caused by a condition called hemangioma. Despite a difficult childhood marred by cruel taunts and mockery, Cody is determined to show people that a happy ending is possible.
Early Life and Battle with Hemangioma
Cody Hall was born in Corby, Northamptonshire, with a severe facial deformity caused by a large hemangioma, a benign tumor composed of small blood vessels that distorts the left side of her face. Doctors informed her worried parents that she would have to wait until the age of six before any attempts at treatment could be made. However, her parents raised £230,000 for her treatment in the United States, and at just 12 months old, Cody underwent the first of 18 surgeries performed by an American surgeon specializing in facial deformities. The initial procedure took place in 1993 at the Roosevelt Clinic in New York. Over the following 14 years, Cody underwent numerous reconstructive surgeries on her nose and face.
Finding Love and Lasting Happiness
Despite facing constant stares and hurtful comments about her "unusual appearance," Cody met her now-husband, Lewis Colt, seven years ago. They got engaged in June 2016 and recently celebrated their wedding. Cody reflects on their emotional day, saying, "Tears were shed, but they were tears of joy." Cody aspires to show people that a happy ending is possible and that true love can overcome any obstacle.
Inspiring Others through Resilience
Cody and Lewis exchanged vows at the Church of St. Michael in Great Oakley, Northamptonshire. Their wedding was the culmination of years of facial lifts, nose corrections, skin transplants, liposuction, skin smoothing, eye surgery, and laser procedures. Cody recalls the emotional challenges she faced growing up, saying, "When I started school, there were many people who would ask me questions. Sometimes, strangers on the street would stare at me. Such attention would sometimes unsettle me, and I would come home and express my dislike for what was happening."
However, as she grew older, Cody learned to convey the most important message to people: "I am who I am." Now, she inspires others to approach her on the street and express their support and admiration. Cody's story sheds light on the resilience and strength of the human spirit, proving that true happiness can be achieved regardless of physical appearance.
Understanding Hemangioma
Hemangioma is a benign tumor composed of small blood vessels located under the skin, resulting in spots and redness on the surface. The exact cause of hemangioma is unknown, although it is associated with placental tissue abnormalities. Approximately one in ten children has a hemangioma of varying severity. Treatment is usually unnecessary unless the hemangioma becomes ulcerated, obstructs the airways, or is located near the eyes or mouth. Therapy aims to relieve pain and treat ulcers with the help of antibiotics.
