Biography of Colin Blunstone
Colin Edward Michael Blunstone, more commonly known as Colin Blunstone, is a British musician and member of the band 'The Zombies'. He was born in 1945 in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, England.
Early Life and Career with 'The Zombies'
Blunstone attended St Albans County Grammar School for boys and began his music career in the early 1960s as the lead vocalist for the young British rock group 'The Zombies'. Despite their unique sound and considerable success, the band disbanded in the late 1960s, and each member went their separate ways.
Solo Career and Collaborations
Blunstone embarked on a solo career that continues to this day. Over the past 40 years, he has recorded a number of successful solo albums and collaborated on numerous projects as a session musician. His most successful album is arguably his first solo album, 'One Year', released in 1971. Produced by Chris White, it exceeded expectations in terms of success. One of the album's most popular tracks, 'Caroline Goodbye', was written by Blunstone after his breakup with his girlfriend, model, and actress Caroline Munro.
In 1973, Blunstone released another album titled 'Ennismore', followed by 'Journey' a year later. In 1976, he released the album 'Planes' under Elton John's record label, Rocket Records. He also released two more albums, 'Never Even Thought' in 1978 and 'Late Nights In Soho' in 1979, both of which had European releases only.
During the 1980s, Blunstone primarily worked on side projects. He collaborated with Alan Parsons and contributed to several albums by the Alan Parsons Project, including 'Eye in The Sky' and 'Ammonia Avenue'. In addition to his studio work, he made frequent appearances on British television and radio. He also appeared in a couple of feature films, 'Keep the Aspidistra Flying' in 1997 and 'The Savages' in 2001.
Recent Work and Discography
Blunstone continues to tour and record music to this day. His latest solo album, 'The Ghost of You and Me', was released in April 2009 after a nearly ten-year hiatus. In 2010, a collection of his music titled 'Colin Blunstone Original Album Classics' was released.
Throughout his music career, Blunstone has released over a dozen solo albums, not including his contributions to 'The Zombies', who reunited with his active involvement. In 1991, Blunstone was one of the initiators of 'The Zombies' reunion; however, the band only released one album before disbanding again for various reasons. Their second (or third) reunion in the 2000s proved to be much more successful.
