Biography of Colin Ireland

Colin Ireland gained notoriety as an English serial killer, known for a series of brutal murders that occurred between March and June 1993. He was dubbed the "Gay Slayer" by the press, as all his victims were homosexuals, and he ended up killing a total of 5 people.

Early Life and Criminal Activities

It is known that even at the age of 20, Ireland had a history of theft and robbery, although he had never escalated to murder before. In early 1993, Colin started frequenting the "Coleherne pub," a gay pub in west London. The pub was known among its regulars for facilitating quick and easy encounters, and visitors used color-coded handkerchiefs to signal their sexual preferences. Colin was attracted to submissive partners with a penchant for sadomasochism, who mistook his cruelty for a sexual game. He claimed to his casual friends that he was heterosexual and even married. It remains unknown whether his crimes were sexually motivated or not, but his planning and organization were meticulous.

The Murders

Colin always had a change of clothes and carried rope and handcuffs in his terrifying arsenal. He never left the crime scene immediately after the murder but stayed until morning to avoid arousing suspicion. He always meticulously concealed any traces of his presence at the crime scene.

His first victim was 45-year-old Peter Walker, a choreographer who invited Colin to his home in Battersea. Walker was found bound and suffocated with a plastic bag. The second victim was 39-year-old Christopher Dunn, who lived in Wealdstone. Initially, his death was considered accidental, occurring during homosexual role-playing. It was only later that this crime was linked to Ireland.

Colin then met 35-year-old businessman Perry Bradley III, the son of a prominent Texas politician, in the pub. Although Perry was not inclined towards sadistic games, Colin convinced him that it was all part of a sexual role-playing game. Perry endured torture at Colin's hands before being killed. Colin also robbed Perry and forced him to reveal his personal information under the threat of further torture. Initially, Colin considered sparing Perry's life, but his fear of being recognized and reported to the police overwhelmed him, leading to Perry's murder.

Colin's last two victims were 33-year-old Andrew Collier, whom he met in the same pub, and 41-year-old Emanuel Spiteri, whom he met in Hither Green. Both were bound and suffocated, and Colin set fire to Emanuel's apartment before leaving.

Capture and Conviction

Although it took some time, the police managed to connect all 5 murders. The link between the killings and the gay community was established, and CCTV footage of the perpetrator and his last victim together was found. Despite Colin's attempts to claim that he left his last victim with another man in the apartment, his fingerprints at the crime scene sealed his fate. He later admitted that he didn't specifically target gay men but found them to be the easiest targets for his purposes.

Colin Ireland was sentenced to life imprisonment for each of the murders. It is unlikely that he will ever be released.
