Biography of Conchata Ferrell
Conchata Galen Ferrell was born on March 28, 1943, in Charleston, West Virginia. She is an American actress best known for her role as Berta, the mature landlord, in the comedy series "Two and a Half Men" on CBS. For this role, she was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2005 and 2007.
Early Life and Education
Ferrell grew up in Circleville, Ohio, the daughter of Meskell Lorene Ferrell (nee George) and Luther Martin Ferrell. She attended West Virginia University for a while before transferring to Marshall University, where she earned a degree in social sciences in education.
Stage and Screen Career
Ferrell's stage career began with her appearance in the original Broadway production of Lanford Wilson's "Hot L Baltimore." She then appeared in the off-Broadway musical "The Sea Horse," for which she received both an Obie Award and a Drama Desk Award. Ferrell established herself as an excellent character actress, and her career went on successfully for the next thirty years. She had roles in films such as "Network," "Mystic Pizza," "Edward Scissorhands," "Erin Brockovich," "Crime and Punishment in Suburbia," "Mr. Deeds," and "K-PAX." She also appeared in several television series, including "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Hot L Baltimore," "Teen Angel," "B.J. and the Bear," "Good Times," "Hearts Afire," "Townies," "Night Court," and "Push, Nevada." In the series "Quincy M.E.," Ferrell played Mrs. Werner in one of the episodes. She often portrayed stern, authoritative judges in her guest roles, as seen in "Sledge Hammer" (episode "Jagged Sledge") and "Friends" (episode "The One With Joey's Porsche").
Personal Life
Ferrell is married to Arnie Anderson, and they have one daughter named Samantha.
