Early Life and Education
Connie Helder was born on November 27, 1958, in The Hague, Netherlands. Her educational background includes completing high school at Jan Campert Lyceum in 1974 and Johan Rudolph Thorbecke Lyceum in 1978, both in The Hague.
University Studies
Helder pursued higher education at Leiden University, studying chemistry from 1978 to 1979. She subsequently enrolled in a surgical assistant program at Sara d'Bronovo and Westeinde hospitals in The Hague from 1979 to 1982. In 1986, she began studying healthcare management at The Hague University of Applied Sciences, graduating in 1988. Simultaneously, Helder also studied political science at Leiden University from 1987 to 1999.
Healthcare Management Experience
Helder's professional career in healthcare management commenced in 2000 as a manager in the surgical department of University Medical Center Utrecht (UMC Utrecht). She later became a healthcare manager in UMC Utrecht's surgical specialties department from 2004 to 2010. In 2010, she assumed the role of board chairman at Stichting Gezondheidscentra Eindhoven (SGE) in Eindhoven, serving in this capacity until 2017.
CEO and Other Leadership Positions
From June 2017 to January 2022, Helder served as CEO of the healthcare institution tanteLouise in Bergen op Zoom. Concurrently, she held a position on the board of the healthcare organization ActiZ from January 2020 to January 2022. Additionally, she played an active role in the regional organization Regionaal Overleg Niet-Acute Zorg (RONAZ) in North Brabant. Since April 1, 2019, Helder has served as chairman of the board of Care Innovation Center.
Political Career
On January 10, 2022, Helder was appointed Minister for Long-Term Care and Sports in the Netherlands' Ministry of Health, Welfare, and Sports. This appointment came as part of the fourth Rutte coalition cabinet, formed after the 2021 parliamentary elections.
