Biography of Corinne Calvet
Corinne Dibos, known professionally as Corinne Calvet, was a French actress born on April 30, 1925, in Paris, France. She studied criminal law at the Sorbonne and made her debut in the 1940s on French radio, the theater stage, and in film before finding herself in Hollywood thanks to producer Hal Wallis.
Early Career
Corinne Calvet joined the ensemble cast of William Dieterle's adventure film "Rope of Sand" in 1949, where she played the role of Mademoiselle Suzanne Renaud alongside Burt Lancaster and Paul Henreid.
Rise to Fame
In the 1950s, Calvet appeared in a number of films, often playing French characters. She worked with leading actors such as Danny Kaye, Joseph Cotten, and James Cagney. Calvet also had the opportunity to work with James Stewart, Alan Ladd, Tony Curtis, Dean Martin, and Jerry Lewis.
Some notable films in Calvet's filmography include Walter Lang's musical comedy "On the Riviera" (1951), the thriller "Peking Express" (1951), and the comedy "What Price Glory" (1952). She also starred in the Western film "The Far Country" (1954) and the war drama "Thunder in the East" directed by Charles Vidor.
Calvet showcased her acting skills in the comedy "So This Is Paris" (1955) alongside Gloria DeHaven and the musical comedy "Sailor Beware". She also had television appearances in the American comedy-variety show "Colgate Comedy Hour" with Donald O'Connor in February 1952 and played the role of Pauline Simone in the series "Hart to Hart".
In addition, Calvet portrayed Yvonne Rousseau in the soap opera "General Hospital" and Marlene Bouvet in the series "Starsky and Hutch".
Personal Life
Calvet was married three times and went through as many divorces. Her first husband was actor John Bromfield, who co-starred with her in "Rope of Sand". According to her, they entered into marriage because it was required by her film studio. They divorced on March 17, 1954.
From 1955 to 1962, Calvet was married to Jeffrey Stone. Her third husband was Robert J. Wirt, whom she was married to from 1968 to October 1971.
Death
Corinne Calvet passed away in Los Angeles on June 23, 2001, at the age of 76, due to a brain hemorrhage.
