Early Life and Family

Cornell Capa was born in Budapest, Hungary, as the younger brother of renowned war photojournalist Robert Capa. In 1936, he followed his brother to Paris and later to New York.

Career as a Photojournalist

Capa began his career as a photographer in 1946, becoming a staff photographer for the magazine "Life." After his brother's untimely death in 1954, Capa joined the photo cooperative Magnum, founded by Robert Capa. As a Magnum photographer, he covered conflicts and events in the Soviet Union, Palestine, and Latin America (particularly among the Amazonian Indians).

Artistic Endeavors and Exhibitions

From 1967 onwards, Capa organized numerous exhibitions and published several photo albums, including a photo chronicle of John F. Kennedy's presidential campaign in 1960. His artistic contributions include photographs of everyday life, conflict, and human resilience.

International Center of Photography

In 1974, Capa founded the International Center of Photography (ICP) in New York City. He served as its director for many years, promoting photography as an art form and establishing a prominent institution for photographic research and education.

Legacy and Impact

Capa's contributions to the field of photography have been immense. Through his photojournalism, he captured significant historical events and illuminated the human condition.
