Biography of Cory Monteith

Cory Monteith was a Canadian actor who gained fame for his role as Finn Hudson in the American TV series "Glee", which has been airing on Fox since May 19, 2009. Monteith's parents divorced when he was 7 years old, and he stayed with his mother in Calgary while his father moved to Oromocto, New Brunswick, a small town in eastern Canada. He dropped out of school in the 9th grade and did not attend college, so, according to his own words, joining "Glee" felt like going back to school. In interviews, Cory mentioned that school was not for him, as he couldn't understand why he had to learn things that his teachers insisted on. The lessons stirred up his rebellious spirit.

Before becoming an actor, Cory tried various odd jobs - he worked as a greeter at Wal-Mart, a car wash attendant, a taxi driver, a school bus driver, and even learned the trade of a roofer. Monteith began his acting career in Vancouver, British Columbia. He had small roles in horror films such as "Final Destination 3" (2006), "Whisper" (2007), and the comedy "Deck the Halls" (2006), and appeared in the popular TV series "Kyle XY". He also had guest appearances on shows like "Smallville", "Supernatural", "Flash Gordon", "Stargate Atlantis", and "Stargate SG-1". In "Killer Bash" (2005), he played the lead role of a ghost seeking revenge on his murderer at a university campus. The following year, he appeared in "Urban Legend: Bloody Mary", and in 2007, he starred in the MTV series "Kaya".

Currently, Monteith resides in Los Angeles, but he often returns to Canada to visit his family during his free time. He plays drums in the Los Angeles indie rock band "Bonnie Dune", which consists of lead vocalist Justin Wilczynski, who also acted with Cory in "Kaya", guitarist Seth Roberts, who sings in the band "Lakes", and bassist Josh Kerr. Cory's drumming skills often come in handy on "Glee" as his character, Finn, frequently sits behind the drums during musical numbers, although his main role is the lead male protagonist, with Cory-Finn performing almost all of the major male parts.

Interestingly, before the start of the series, Cory had little singing experience and had submitted a recording for the audition where it was difficult to assess his vocal abilities. However, the creators of the show were so captivated by his boyish appearance, despite him already being 27 years old at the time, that they invited him to audition and only then realized - what about the main contender for the lead male role singing? Fortunately, Cory had a good strong voice, but he had to learn to control it during filming.

In April 2010, Monteith landed a role in the new romantic comedy "Monte Carlo", which premiered on July 1, 2011. In May 2010, the cast of "Glee" embarked on a two-week tour with stops in Los Angeles, Phoenix, Chicago, and New York City, performing many of the show's hits. On August 8, 2010, he was one of the hosts of the "Teen Choice Awards", and on November 13, he hosted the "Gemini Awards" ceremony in Toronto.
