Early Life and CareerCourtney Frerichs, an American track and field athlete, was born on January 18, 1993, in Mundelein, Illinois. She began her athletic journey in high school, where she excelled in multiple sports, including cross country, football, and gymnastics. As a senior at Nixa High School, she was named All-Conference and All-District Cross Country Athlete of the Week, as well as KSPR-TV Athlete of the Week.
Collegiate and National Success
Frerichs attended the University of Arkansas, where she continued to dominate in track and field. She won the NCAA steeplechase title at the 2016 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, setting a collegiate record of 9:24.41.
At the 2017 World Championships, Frerichs claimed a silver medal, becoming the seventh-fastest woman in the event's history. She also won the silver medal at the 2018 Herculis meet in Monaco, finishing just behind the world record set by Beatrice Chepkoech. Her time of 9:00.85 broke the American and North American (NACAC) steeplechase records.
Olympic Glory
At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Frerichs secured a silver medal in the steeplechase with a time of 9:04.79, finishing behind Peruth Chemutai and ahead of Hyvin Kiyeng Jepkemei.
