Early Life and Education
Courtney Thorne Smith was born on November 8, 1967, in San Francisco, California. She grew up in Menlo Park, a suburb south of the city. Her father, Walter Smith, was a computer market research analyst, and her mother was a physical therapist. After her parents divorced when she was seven years old, Courtney lived with both her mother and father.
She attended Menlo-Atherton High School and graduated from Tamalpais High School in 1985. While in high school, Courtney performed with the Ensemble Theater Company in Mill Valley.
Acting Debut and Film Career
Courtney's acting career began with her film debut in 1985. Throughout the late eighties and nineties, she appeared in several films, including "Summer School" (1987), "Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise" (1987), "Side Out" (1990), and "Chairman of the Board" (1998).
