Biography of Crash Holly

American professional wrestler Mike Lockwood, better known by his stage name Crash Holly, was born on August 25, 1971, in Anaheim, California. He grew up in Pacifica and attended Terra Nova High School. Lockwood became interested in professional wrestling while in 8th grade and was a fan of wrestler Dean R. Peters (Brady Boone). During this time, he began training for matches and worked for an independent promotion and the Safeway Corporation to support himself.

Early Career

Lockwood made his wrestling debut in 1989 under the name Johnny Pearson. He wrestled for the independent promotion Irish Erin O'Grady and in 1996, he joined the APW federation, where he became known as Leprechaun Erin O'Grady. He particularly excelled in tag team matches alongside Victor "Vic" Grimes.

WWF and WWE

On February 20, 1999, Lockwood signed a contract with WWF (now WWE) and, along with Grimes, won the tag team championship. WWF coordinator Bruce Prichard sent Lockwood to Mexico to learn the lucha libre style of wrestling, and he spent three months in Monterrey as the character Green Ghost. On television, Lockwood appeared as Crash Holly, introduced as the cousin of Bob "Hardcore" Holly, on the program "Raw is War." The on-screen cousins often feuded, with Bob constantly bullying Lockwood. They formed the tag team "The Holly Cousins" and debuted at the annual "SummerSlam" event.

Hardcore Division and Success

At the beginning of 2000, Lockwood, still performing as Crash Holly, joined the hardcore division and won the hardcore championship for the first time on February 24. He introduced the "24/7" rule, which meant he had to defend the title 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This resulted in other wrestlers constantly attacking him unexpectedly, whether at airports, circuses, or even in his hotel room. Lockwood became known as the "Houdini of Hardcore" for his ability to outsmart his opponents and win in the most challenging and unconventional situations. Throughout his time in WWF/WWE, Lockwood became the European Champion, the Light Heavyweight Champion, and a one-time Tag Team Champion with Hardcore Holly as part of The Holly Cousins.

Later Career and Tragic Death

In June 2003, Lockwood left WWE and joined the TNA promotion, adopting the pseudonym Mad Mikey. However, just four months after his debut, in November, he tragically passed away. Lockwood's cause of death was initially believed to be due to choking on his own vomit. However, an official ruling later declared it a suicide by overdosing on the prescription drug carisoprodol. Lockwood was buried in a Chinese grove in Rowan County, North Carolina.

Legacy

In August 2005, Molly Holly released a biographical DVD titled "Nora Greenwald: Shootin' the Shi Crap," with a portion of the proceeds going to Lockwood's daughter's educational fund. In March 2005, the New Breed Wrestling association organized a tournament in Lockwood's memory, which was won by Michael Modest. Lockwood's contributions to the wrestling world and his unique character as Crash Holly continue to be remembered by fans.
