Early Life and Education
Infanta Cristina is the younger daughter of King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia of Spain. Born on June 13, 1965, she is sixth in line to the Spanish throne. She completed her secondary education at the Santa Maria del Camino School in Madrid.
From 1984 to 1989, Infanta Cristina studied political science and sociology at the Complutense University of Madrid. She graduated in 1990 from New York University with a master's degree in international relations.
Prior to 1991, she interned at the UNESCO Secretariat in Paris, France. Infanta Cristina is fluent in Catalan, English, French, Greek, and Spanish.
Sporting Achievements
The Infanta is an avid skier and sailor. She competed in Spanish sailing championships in 1987 and 1988. In 1988, she served as a member of Spain's Olympic sailing team in the 470 racing yacht class and was the flag bearer for Spain at the opening ceremony of the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea.
Public and State Service
Infanta Cristina has an active public life, representing the royal family at events both domestically and internationally. She heads various charitable, cultural, and educational organizations, including:

- Honorary President of the Infanta Cristina Foundation, which supports people with disabilities and intellectual impairments
- Co-founder of the Foundation for the Promotion of Sailing for People with Disabilities

Family
On October 4, 1997, Infanta Cristina married Iñaki Urdangarin, a retired Spanish Olympic handball player. They have four children:

Criminal Prosecution
In 2016, Infanta Cristina became the first member of the Spanish royal family to stand trial since the restoration of the monarchy in the 1970s. She was accused of tax fraud and embezzlement, along with her husband and 16 other defendants. The Infanta denied the charges, but she was eventually sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison. However, she appealed the sentence and was eventually acquitted in 2021.
