Early Years and Background

Elizabeth Harris, known professionally as Cupcakke, was born in Chicago, Illinois, on May 14, 1997. She grew up in King Drive, near Parkway Gardens, and was raised by a single mother until she was seven years old, when she entered the foster care system. Harris began her musical journey at ten years old, attending church and choir and writing religious poetry. However, her musical interests shifted to rap music at thirteen, and she cites influences such as 50 Cent, Lil' Kim, and Da Brat.

Musical Career

2012-2014: Early Beginnings

Harris uploaded her first music video, "Gold Digger," to her official YouTube channel in August 2012, gaining viral recognition despite being only fourteen years old. Over the next few years, she consistently released tracks and videos, garnering over 100,000 subscribers on her channel.

2015-2016: Cum Cake, S.T.D., and Audacious

In October 2015, Harris's music videos for "Vagina" and "Deepthroat" went viral, sparking controversy for their explicit sexual content and themes. These songs were later featured on her debut mixtape, Cum Cake(2016), which also included tracks like "Juicy Coochie," "Tit for Tat," and "Pedophile." _Pitchfork_ praised the mixtape's "sophisticated songwriting about love, loss, and the specific struggles of being a young Chicago rapper," particularly noting the powerful lyrics on "Pedophile."

In February 2017, Harris released "Cumshot," the lead single for her second studio album. The following month, Charli XCX featured her on the track "Lipgloss." On March 24, 2017, Cupcakke officially announced the release of her second studio album, Queen Elizabitch,which dropped on March 31st. Stereogumnoted that "Cupcakke writes the sort of topical, politically minded, and socio-conscious rap songs that should let her break out to a wider audience."

Queen Elizabitchwas briefly removed from sale in all online marketplaces due to copyright issues but was re-released a week later. Harris embarked on The Marilyn Monhoe Tour in support of the album in April 2017, with guest appearances from K.I.D. and other artists. Following the tour's conclusion, she recorded guest verses on several tracks.

In August 2017, Cupcakke embarked on another short tour, the Queen Elizabitch Tour, across the United States. In September, she announced the release of her new single, "Exit," which was made available digitally on September 15th. The second single from the album, "Cartoons," premiered on November 10th.

Cupcakke's third studio album, Ephorize,was released on January 5, 2018. It received an 8.3 rating and a "Best New Album" designation from Pitchfork,making it the third-highest-rated female hip-hop album in the publication's history. Harris was scheduled to open for Iggy Azalea on her "The Bad Girls Tour" from October to December 2018, but she eventually withdrew from the tour, which was later canceled entirely.

2019-Present: Announced Retirement and Return

On April 17, 2019, Harris released a remix of Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" titled "Old Town Hoe." In September 2019, she announced her retirement via social media live stream, stating: "this live right now is going to be the last video y'all ever see from me." She claimed she would no longer release music publicly and would remove her music from all streaming platforms.

During the same live stream, Harris announced that she was canceling her "10k Giveaway" tour because she had "corrupted" her young fans with her explicit lyrics. She expressed her discomfort with seeing children recite her songs in videos and young people attending her shows, saying, "I want to go to heaven after this. I don't want to go to hell." Harris also told her fans that she suffered from a "gambling addiction" and lost $700,000 at a casino in September 2018.

On November 17, Cupcakke performed at the Adult Swim Festival, marking her return from her brief hiatus. On January 8, 2019, Harris suffered a suicide attempt. She tweeted about betrayal and abusive behavior from men, stating, "i'm bout to kill myself."
